Nothing dresses up a garment more than an attractive edging. Edgings can be narrow or wide, long or short, lacy or patterned. Many edgings can be found in hand knitting books, however, the following patterns have been reproduced for machine knitting.

The first one has a triangle edge with a straight lace border. Try using different thicknesses of yarn to see the effect, you will be very surprised.

Edging No. 1:
Cast on 13 sts with waste yarn, knit several rows and finish with carriage at left. Knit 1 row with ravel cord, wrap Using main yarn knit 2 rows.

Row 1: Transfer st 3 to ndl 4. Transfer st 5 to ndl 4. Transfer st 7 to ndl 8. Transfer st 9 to ndl 8. Bring needle 14 to wp. Transfer sts 12 & 13 to needles 13 & 14. Knit 1 row.
Even Rows: Knit.
From now on every odd row will be a transfer row and every even row a knit row. Only instructions for transfer rows will be given.
Row 3: Transfer st 3 to ndl 4, st 5 to ndl 4. Transfer st 7 to ndl 8, st 9 to ndl 8. Bring ndl 15 to wp. Transfer sts 13 & 14 to ndls 14 & 15.
Row 5: Transfer st 3 to ndl 4, st 5 to ndl 4. Transfer st 7 to ndl 8, st 9 to ndl 8. Bring ndl 16 to wp. Transfer sts 14 & 15 to ndls 15 & 16.
Row 7: Transfer st 3 to ndl 4, st 5 to ndl 4. Transfer st 7 to ndl 8, st 9 to ndl 8. Transfer st 12 to 13. Bring ndl 17 to wp. Transfer sts 15 & 16 to 16 & 17.
Row 9: Transfer st 3 to ndl 4, st 5 to ndl 4. Transfer st 7 to ndl 8, st 9 to ndl 8. Transfer st 11 to 12 & 13 to 12. Bring ndl 18 to wp. Transfer sts 16 & 17 to 17 & 18.
Row 11: Transfer st 3 to ndl 4, st 5 to ndl 4. Transfer st 7 to ndl 8, st 9 to ndl 8. Transfer st 12 to 11 & 15 to 14. Transfer sts 17 & 18 to 16 & 17. Push ndl 18 to nwp.
Row 13: Transfer st 3 to ndl 4, st 5 to ndl 4. Transfer st 7 to ndl 8, st 9 to ndl 8. Transfer st 14 to 13. Transfer sts 16 & 17 to 15 & 16. Push ndl 17 to nwp.
Row 15: Transfer st 3 to ndl 4, st 5 to ndl 4. Transfer st 7 to ndl 8, st 9 to ndl 8. Transfer st 13 to 12. Transfer sts 15 & 16 to 14 & 15. Push ndl 16 to nwp.
Row 17: Transfer st 3 to ndl 4, st 5 to ndl 4. Transfer st 7 to ndl 8, st 9 to ndl 8. Transfer st 12 to 11. Transfer sts 14 & 15 to 13 & 14. Push ndl 15 to nwp.
Repeat from row 1 to 18 for desired length.
Note: The edging can also be made by E wrap CO instead of using scrap yarn.
